Lake Zurich Pop-Up Storm-Related Flood Damage
8/15/2019 (Permalink)
We know how serious flood damage in Lake Zurich is.
“Micro-burst” showers catch residents of Lake Zurich unprepared. Hot, steamy late summer days can generate highly-localized torrential rainstorms that deposit a significant amount of water in a short period. If a downspout comes loose or a basement window is left open, the wet areas in your lower levels can go from a minor inconvenience to a crisis. We count flood recovery as one of our core services. We would be honored to help.
Supersaturated Ground Equals Basement Floods
Sometimes the Lake Zurich area suffers flood damage when “trains” of rainstorms following one after another. Any one storm is unremarkable, but the cumulative effect of several in quick succession can saturate the ground so thoroughly that the water has nowhere to drain except into your home. Cracks in the foundation can make it more susceptible as can a failure to grade the ground around the perimeter of your home away from the foundation.
Submersible Pumps and Extractors Step Up First
Every SERVPRO service vehicle carries pumps for removing water more than two inches deep and truck-mounted extractors for the remaining standing water. Once the crew lead assesses the damage and designs a plan our Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC)-trained technicians roll out the equipment. The more liquid water we remove that more efficient our drying configurations can be. If your electricity is out, no worries. Our trucks carry onboard power generators.
Research-Based Drying Configurations
When SERVPRO determines drying goals, we use moisture data collected by probes and sensors. Our technicians take courses intended to make this data collection standardized and easy to insert into a more comprehensive drying plan. As we add air movers and heaters to the flooded area, we aim to create a balance that moves water out of structural components and into the air as vapor. The vapor condenses or absorbs into a fluid depending on the humidifiers positioned in the flooded space. Liquid water collected is discarded outside the home.
EPA-Registered Cleaners and Disinfectants
The flooded surfaces are cleaned and treated with appropriate products. SERVPRO aims to inhibit the growth of molds or pathogens. We can also seal spaces with products intended to act as antimicrobial base coats for further restoration efforts.
